Day 1 - Berlin had an interesting mix of architecture, ranging from the Soviet era Plattenbau to funky, modernized buildings with sweeping curves and glass facades.

Sightseeing
* Holocaust Memorial
* Reichstag (Parliament Building) - the glass dome has a nice panoramic view of the city
* 100 bus line - a great way to tour the city - there is a stop across the street from the Reichstag
* Berliner Fernsehturm (TV Tower) - awesome 360 view of the city!
* Checkpoint Charlie - Historical checkpoint on the former USA-USSR border. The museum documents the history of civil rights movements around the world and showcases fascinating stories of escape across the East/West Berlin border.
* Berlin Wall - you can visit a remnant of the Berlin Wall that still stands
* Brandenburg Gate - Built in 1791, this was one of Berlin's original 14 city gates. During the World Cup, it was a nice place to grab a beer and catch a game on the big screen!

Dining
Take the U-bahn to the Oranienburger stop. I was impressed with the wide variety of ethnic foods available to choose from--we ended up at Mirchi. The restaurant had a very unique decor inside and we sampled delicious Singaporean entrees of chicken, lamb and shrimp!

Day 2 - Dresden is located two hours south of Berlin. Most of the city was destroyed after the controversial bombing by the Allies during WWII, but has since rebuilt itself remarkably.

Sightseeing
* Theaterplatz - impressive Baroque architecture can be seen in the Zwinger Palace, Semperoper (Semper Opera House), and Katholische Hofkirche
* Take a walk across the Augustusbrücke or Carolabrücke over the Elbe River into Neustadt
* Brühlsche Terrasse - nicknamed "The Balcony of Europe", it overlooks the Elbe River
* Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) - climb to the top for a scenic panoramic view of the city and Elbe River
* Fürstenzug (Procession of the dukes) - the largest porcelain mosaic in the world, measuring 102 meters long, depicts all the Saxon rulers between 1123-1904
* Gläserne Manufaktur (Transparent Factory) - Volkswagen's luxury car assembly plant with a unique glass exterior showcasing the Phaeton
* Palais Großer Garten - located a short walk from the VW factory

Dining
Münzgasse - pedestrian-friendly street lined with restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops, located between the Brühlsche Terrasse and Frauenkirche. My dinner consisted of tender pork chops wrapped in bacon with potatoes, double oink!
